Flawed Council Report Claims Public Want Middle Head Oval to be Synthetic

A SynPlaySurfaces CnclReport 10Nov15 last week claims that public feedback “largely support” the conversion of Middle Head Oval into an artificial playing field (synthetic turf).

We have serious concerns about Council’s conclusion, for the following reasons.

In addition to identifiable written submissions, Council staff have also included a flawed, anonymous on-line survey (using “SurveyMonkey” software), giving each equal weight.

HPG has investigated SurveyMonkey thoroughly and believe that it is impossible to verify that respondents correspond to unique real people.

Last August, jointly with Mosman Parks and Bushland Inc., HPG …

New Rural Fire Service 10/50 laws may also apply to the proposed aged care home

Today the Sun Herald has reported on the new Rural Fire Service 10/50 laws which allow landholders within 350 metres of bushfire prone land to remove trees (10 metres) and remove shrubs (50 metres) without approval.

Simmo & his AATTV mates wouldn’t stand for this destruction

Middle Head in Sydney presents a succession of winding plateaus and spurs culminating in a jutting headland that points to the open sea between Sydney Heads.

There is also a profusion of military heritage buildings scattered around the place leaving no doubt that this has long been a military precinct.

The oldest fortification of gun batteries dates back to the …

Middle Head Aged Care development proposal is greedy, big and conspicuous

Submission to Sydney Harbour Federation Trust

Dear Sir,

The adapted usage of the Middle Head parklands, has to date, been exemplary. The elegance and simplicity of the existing structures is central to the success of the project.

The proposed plans for the aged care facility are way out of keeping with the existing theme.

*  The new buildings are in stark disharmony with the heritage structures
*  The continuum structure which replaces the three ‘demolished’ buildings is confronting
*  It’s a bit greedy. Too big. …

I strongly object to the changes suggested to the SHFT Plan of Management which has been engineered to accommodate one particular application for a private commercial overdevelopment at The Barracks and Terminal 10 Buildings.

The only parts that I agree are:

The proposed change to add “compliance with bushfire regulations“. This is a high bushfire prone area and I am confident that the proposal will NOT get certification from the …

Perhaps the only was to fight this development is to look to other uses and get support from say the Australian Museum, Botanical Gardens and Taronga Zoo.

Save Middle Head from Developer
